Ski Trip to Italy

On 15th of March, four of the young people we support and six students from Linden Lodge School took off from London Gatwick and flew to Turin in Italy for eight days. After heading into the Alps, to a town called Sauze D’Oulx, the children took part in a ski trip of a lifetime!

During their time in the mountains, they were looked after extremely well on the slopes by the ‘Sauze Project’, a ski school that specifically caters for people with disabilities, including visual impairments. Each day, the ten young people received 1-1 tuition from highly experienced ski instructors and, by the end of the week, all of the children had made outstanding progress with their skiing. Our four young people did incredibly well, skiing down the training slope independently and, by the end of the trip, two of them even felt confident enough to go further up the mountain in order to tackle the more advanced slopes, which they thoroughly enjoyed!

The students were also involved in other fun activities to fill each day, such as sledging, snow play, singing, a quiz night, the Nutella party and, on the last night of the trip, the medal ceremony.

The trip was funded completely through charitable donations and everything was paid for from the flights and accommodation all the way to the specialist ski clothing that the children wore on the slopes.

When asked at the end of the trip how they felt about it, they wrote down some of their thoughts:

“In my personal opinion, I wouldn’t change a thing about the trip, because I enjoyed every second of it.”

“I enjoyed the whole trip because I didn’t know how to ski, but now I am an expert!”

“Everyone was really nice and I want to go skiing as soon as possible.”

“All of the students are lovely and I think I’ve made a lot of new friends.”

“I am so glad and blessed to have come on this trip. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity.”

The trip was organised by Debbie Aldridge (School Business Manager) and Tim Richmond (Head of P.E.), both from Linden Lodge School. Huge thanks go out to both of them, to all staff and to the many volunteers who came along, for giving our children the opportunity to take part in such an amazing trip!
